It was japa season last month, I was discussing with my uncle who just got back from the UK when he mentioned: “Hahh! My business flight tickets to the UK now cost more than 5 million Naira!”

I choked on my pasta!

Ordinary flight ticket?! I started calculating the prices for Santorini, which is on my birthday bucket list for the coming months; only now, it feels like I’d have to wait longer😭

Or not!

My uncle came through a month before my birthday. He showed up with a tiny and almost flat-looking parcel. “Happy Birthday in advance.”

Super excited, I ripped off the lid, only for my excitement to die down when I took a closer look at the pretty card. “A debit card???” I asked, still looking at the card in my hands. I tried so hard to hide the disappointment in my tone, but It showed anyway.

“No silly, it’s an Ultra card,” he smiled.

I scratched my head for a moment, looking a little lost. “Ultracard? What is that?

“Well, you may know them as credit cards, you can call it that. My bank just has a taste for being different”.

“Wow! So, it’s one of its kind?”

“Of course, one with enough credit to fund your birthday trip to Santorini next month,” he smiled.

“No way!!!”  I was so ecstatic.

Fast forward to now, one month later, I am lounging on a low hammock enjoying the cool ocean breeze, exotic scenery and so much good food.

For a moment, I looked at the pretty Ultracard in my hands that brought this end-of-year dream to life and I thought: This has got to be the best way to start a new year.
