Pitch Summary

I am nominating myself for the Sterling Bank University Scholarship because I believe in the power of education to transform lives, starting with mine. This opportunity represents a vital step toward fulfilling my long-held dream of becoming a tech professional, and it aligns perfectly with Sterling Bank’s vision of investing in Nigeria’s greatest asset: its people, especially through the HEART sectors—Health, Education, Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Transportation.
I graduated from secondary school in 2015, determined to pursue higher education. I sat for JAMB in 2016 and 2017, scoring 223 and 238 respectively. However, after losing my father in 2014 while I was in SS2, my family was plunged into financial hardship. Despite meeting the requirements, I couldn’t proceed to university due to lack of support. I still remember my 2017 Post-UTME experience at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. I traveled there alone with just enough money for a one-way trip. I had no place to stay, relied on the kindness of strangers—fellow students—for food and accommodation, and had to wait a week before my family could send transport fare back home. That moment made it painfully clear that, even if I secured admission, my family could not afford to sponsor my education.
Rather than lose hope, I channeled my energy into entrepreneurship. I have since gained valuable skills and experience through institutions like the Enterprise Development Centre in Lagos, which has shaped me into a more capable, resilient, and purpose-driven individual. But my dream of earning a university degree, particularly in the field of Cybersecurity, has never faded.
My interest in Cybersecurity is driven not only by my personal experience as a victim of cybercrime but also by witnessing the damage it causes to others. I have met and spoken with several individuals whose personal and financial lives have been devastated by cybercriminals. This has ignited in me a deep passion to be part of the solution by helping protect people and systems and ensuring that cybercriminals are brought to justice. In today’s digital world, Cybersecurity is not just a career path, it is a mission.

This is why the Sterling-Miva partnership is particularly meaningful to me. Miva Open University’s innovative, affordable, and flexible approach, without requiring a JAMB score, removes the very barriers that have kept me from accessing higher education. Sterling’s Beyond Education initiative represents the kind of inclusive and forward-thinking investment that people like me need to change our lives and communities for the better.
If awarded this scholarship, I will become the first university graduate in my family. This will be a powerful milestone that will uplift not only me but also inspire those around me. I am ready to give back, to mentor others, and to contribute to national growth through digital innovation and Cybersecurity expertise. With your support, I can finally fulfill my potential and help Nigeria build a safer, more secure future.
Thank you for considering my application.
