Nominating myself for this scholarship is fuel by my commitment to using education and innovation as a tool to tackle critical global challenges, particularly within agricultural food systems, climate justice, and economic disparity. My educational background in National Diploma in Agricultural technology and a Bachelor’s of Agricultural Economics, combined with hands-on experience and specialized training, has equipped me with the expertise and vision necessary to excel in a Bachelor of Science program in Public Policy and Administration. This degree is the most important bridge I need to connect me through modules of International Policy, & Development and Principles of Rural Economics, Trade, Investment and Technology, which is an opportunity to engage with various attempts made by policymakers to solve economic and livelihood problems.
My dedication was further recognized when I was honored as a Food Security Scholar by the Education First Fund, enabling me to pursue a Master’s degree in Food Systems and Sustainable Agriculture at Osiri University in the USA. This advanced study has sharpened my acumen and broadened my perspective on global environmental crisis. Critically, my professional trajectory was amplified by the transformative Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership Center training in Ghana, where I participated in the civic track. This experience did not only honed my leadership and policy advocacy skills but immersed me in innovative approaches to stakeholder engagement, proposal development, and cross-continental networking. YALI connected me with change makers across Africa, solidifying my resolve to address systemic inequities in agriculture and climate resilience.
My skillset span policy analysis, data-driven decision-making, technology integration, and project leadership which positions me uniquely to bridge gaps between policy, economy, and sustainability in Nigeria. Obtaining Bscin Public Policy and administration will enable me to advocate for adapting models like Singapore’s Greenprint to pioneer a green fintech ecosystem in Nigeria, fostering both environmental stewardship and inclusive economic growth. This is indeed the essential next step for me to pursue this path as It will surely empower me to develop frameworks for the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) that harmonize industrial growth with environmental accountability, tracking of petrochemicals companies and industries to craft policies that ensure climate justice and equitable resource access for marginalized communities.
As a student at Miva University, I’ll seek to collaborate with local organizations and stakeholders such as the Nigerian Environmental Society (NES), National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services (NAERLS), and the Federal Ministry of Education. I will seek partnerships within Miva University’s network of academic and industry collaborators to amplify the impact of community-driven policy projects. My primary objective will be to design and implement strategies that address pressing environmental challenges impacting the health, agriculture, and education sectors. This includes fostering sustainable agricultural practices with NAERLS to ensure food security, developing resilience-building measures with NES to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change on public health, and working with the Federal Ministry of Education to create policy frameworks that enhance environmental awareness and sustainability education in schools.
The knowledge and professional training I gain will not only benefit my personal development but also empower me to contribute positively to my community. These efforts will lay a foundation for me to transition into a role as a Public Policy and Development Specialist at a national or international organization, such as the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). My ultimate goal is to work under the mentorship of professionals like Mr. Bukar Tijani, who served as the FAO Regional Representative for Africa, to address food insecurity and promote sustainable development in Nigeria.
This is more than financial support, it is an investment in scalable, transformative change. With my academic rigor, field experience, YALI-forged leadership, and a vision for an Africa-leading green innovation revolution, I am poised to turn policy into impactful action. I seek this opportunity to deepen my expertise, access global networks, and ultimately champion sustainable, inclusive solutions that leave no one behind in building a resilient and equitable future.
