Pitch Summary

Dear Scholarship Committee, Some dreams refuse to fade, no matter how long the journey becomes. For me, the dream of becoming a journalist and a public relations professional has been one of those enduring dreams. From a young age, I have always been fascinated by the power of communication. I admired how journalists tell stories that shape society, inform citizens, and hold institutions accountable. I was equally drawn to the role of public relations in building understanding between organizations and the communities they serve. In my mind, communication has always been more than words; it is a force capable of inspiring change, bridging divides, and giving voice to those who might otherwise go unheard. Yet the path toward that dream has not been simple. Life introduced me to loss very early. I lost my mother twenty-five years ago, and eight years ago, I also lost my father. Growing up without the guidance and support of both parents meant that many of my aspirations had to take a back seat to the realities of survival and responsibility. Dreams, as beautiful as they are, sometimes must wait when life demands resilience first. Still, I never allowed the dream to die. Education became my anchor. I pursued and obtained a degree in English and Literature, a discipline that deepened my love for language, storytelling, and critical thinking. That journey strengthened the very skills that lie at the heart of communication. Yet, even with that achievement, I have always known that my true calling lies fully within the field of Mass Communication. In many ways, my life experiences have already shaped the kind of communicator I hope to become. Having faced loss and uncertainty, I have developed empathy for human stories and a deep appreciation for truth and responsible storytelling. I believe journalism is not simply about reporting events; it is about telling stories that matter, stories that can influence policy, awaken conscience, and empower communities. However, pursuing this path at this stage of my life requires support. Receiving this scholarship would mean far more than financial assistance. It would represent hope renewed. It would be like a lamp in darkness, illuminating a path that has always been present but difficult to reach. It would also serve as a bridge between rivers, connecting where I am today with the future I have long envisioned for myself. With the opportunity to study Mass Communication at Miva University, I will be able to align my academic pursuit with my lifelong passion. I am determined to use the knowledge and training from this program to contribute meaningfully to journalism, public discourse, and public relations practice in ways that promote truth, integrity, and social development. This scholarship would not simply fund my education; it would help transform a long-held dream into a purposeful mission. Thank you for considering my application and for giving individuals like me the opportunity to pursue our calling despite life’s many obstacles. Yours sincerely, Ezekiel Ighodaro
