Pitch Summary

I am nominating myself for the Sterling Bank Scholarship because I am deeply committed to pursuing a career in Public Health and contributing meaningfully to the health and well-being of my community. Growing up, I witnessed firsthand the devastating effects of HIV and AIDS on my mother and the emotional, social, and economic challenges our family faced. This early experience shaped my understanding that health is not just biological—it is social, emotional, and deeply tied to access, dignity, and community support. Over the years, I have been actively involved in community health initiatives. I volunteered at Okigwe General Hospital as a teenager, supporting peer education sessions and assisting in HIV and tuberculosis programs. Later, I worked as a Program Manager with Happiest Ones Health Support and Rights Initiative, leading community-centered interventions in HIV prevention, mental health support, and gender-based violence response. I have seen the transformative impact of awareness, empathy, and structured care on marginalized populations. Despite my dedication and commitment, financial constraints have made it challenging to pursue higher education in Public Health. Receiving this scholarship would not only ease this burden but would also provide me with the opportunity to gain the formal education and technical skills necessary to strengthen my capacity to serve my community effectively. I am passionate about using knowledge, research, and practice to improve health outcomes, reduce stigma, and create inclusive interventions for vulnerable populations. I believe this scholarship will enable me to turn my lived experiences and fieldwork into professional impact, making me a worthy candidate for this award.
