It is with great confidence and deep conviction that I nominate Adeife Olabamidele for the Sterling Bank Scholarship. She is an outstanding example of grit, intelligence, and purpose, a young girl who, despite financial challenges, has continued to rise above her circumstances with uncommon determination.
Born into a humble but hardworking household, Adeife is the daughter of a tailor and a welder. There were times she was sent home from school due to unpaid tuition. Still, she never allowed setbacks to defeat her. Instead, she taught herself, often reading late into the night to catch up on missed classes. She has cultivated a quiet discipline, the kind that cannot be taught, only earned.
Prior to writing her WAEC, Adeife made the decision to pursue a degree in IT (Software Development). This choice was not made out of convenience, but out of conviction. She has already started learning how to code on her own, recognising that early preparation is key to long-term success in the field. Her initiative reflects her passion and deep curiosity about how technology can be used to solve real-world problems.
In her own words, when ask why IT Software:
“I believe it aligns perfectly with both my interests and strengths. Since my SS2, after a school seminar organised by an external consultant, I have been drawn to web development, design, and coding, not just because they’re exciting, but because they give me a way to solve real problems creatively. I am someone who loves reading and solving problems in different formats, which is why I am passionate about mathematics and design. I am Software Engineering requires some grit, determination and hard work, I am up to the task.”
Her passion is clear, but it is her attitude , work ethic and mindset that set her apart. She is not only eager to learn, but to apply her knowledge to build opportunities both for herself and for others. She dreams of developing platforms that make learning accessible to children from low-income communities, children like herself, who needed more than what life handed them.
The Sterling Bank Scholarship would not only unlock her academic potential but would plant a seed in a fertile mind that is ready to grow, give back, and lead. I have no doubt that Adeife Olabamidele will not only succeed as a student of Software Engineering, but will become a changemaker in Nigeria’s digital future.
