Why HEART?
Why HEART?

Nigeria’s biggest challenges – in health, education, agriculture, renewable energy, and transportation – are where its greatest opportunities lie. Sterling Bank chose to focus where it matters most, helping to restore the nation’s vital signs one heartbeat at a time.

Our Approach

Sterling Bank drives real change by investing in the HEART sectors: Health, Education, Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Transportation, creating real impact through community partnerships and sustainable solutions.

Delivering life-saving healthcare by deploying 300 Ilera Eko smart health booths for diagnostics (with 50 live), utilizing drones for delivering over 150,000 vials of medical supplies, financing crucial facilities like the ₦1.2 billion Agbor Maternity Centre (achieving 720 safe deliveries YTD), and supporting 10,000 medics through the ₦1 billion Health Workers’ Fund. Our efforts have provided 1.9 million additional Nigerians with primary care access.

Empowering Nigeria’s future by keeping 5,812 students in school via Edubanc, investing over ₦10 Billion in the education sector, training 600 school leaders across 12 cities through the School Leaders Academy, and financing pathways for over 850 software engineers through innovative partnerships.

Transforming agricultural productivity by investing a total of ₦500 Billion in the sector over the last 5 years. Key programs include disbursing ₦14.43 billion via SWAY-AgFin to 25,000 farmers (43% women, 70% youth), facilitating over ₦3 Billion in commodity value via the SABEX blockchain exchange, and creating over 500,000 direct and indirect jobs.

Powering Nigeria with clean and reliable energy by investing over ₦15 Billion in renewable energy projects through our corporate team. Our Imperium platform has financed ₦2.83 billion in solar solutions, generating 3.58 MW to power 174 homes and 218 businesses. These initiatives contribute to 19,813 tCO2e in emissions avoidance and include flagship projects like the IFC EDGE certified Sterling Towers.

Modernizing transportation with sustainable solutions by deploying 1,157 Electric Vehicles (1,120 e-tricycles and 37 four-wheelers). Our Kano e-tricycle project alone has saved 8,112.3 MT of CO2 emissions. We are expanding EV infrastructure with 10 charge stations deployed (5 operational) and 3 operational swap stations in Kano, alongside Green Upskilling programs for technicians.
